School Information
As a Church of England Primary School we recognise that we are made in the image of God and we must care for and show consideration for God’s world. This is reflected in our worship, learning and playing together. Farway Primary School is a Church of England (Voluntary Aided) co-education school for children aged 4-11 years. We also have a preschool, where we welcome pupils from 2 years of age. Our school is a welcoming and happy place where children can learn in a secure and stimulating environment. We emphasise all Christian moral and spiritual values, especially those of trust and respect for others.
We set high standards for teaching and learning and we seek to help children to develop lively and enquiring minds. We want them to be able to make reasoned judgements and to apply themselves to the acquisition of knowledge and skills relevant to life in a rapidly changing world. We encourage our children to develop an understanding of this world through the experience of a broad and balanced curriculum.
We aim to create an environment where children can develop a growing responsibility for their own learning, one where they can organise their own research and indeed learn how to learn. We believe in nourishing the social, emotional and spiritual development of each child in order that they will be able to grow intellectually as well as personally to become happy members of society.
Farway is situated in a beautiful valley 3 miles from the market town of Honiton, in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The school consists of the original stone building, which was constructed in 1835. In 2004 a new extension was finished which houses a new classroom and computer area, new toilets, a multi purpose hall, a spacious and secure main entrance with extremely good library facilities and a secure play area for the Foundation Stage children.
The playground has been extended and flattened to offer a good sized area to play and take part in sports. We also have a field and Timber Trail which leads to a small garden in which the children grow flowers, fruit and vegetables. These attractive grounds are surrounded by wonderful open countryside which provides a natural resource for learning.
